Volunteers mowing the NCT during the 24 Hours of the Chip in 2010

The NCTA and Chippewa National Forest will once again be partnering to mow the NCT in “the Chip” during the 3rd Annual* 24 Hours of the Chip event.  You are invited to northern Minnesota to help out!

*Note: the 2011 event was cancelled because the trail was too wet for mowing.  Instead, we performed other trail improvements like installing signage, tread rehab, boardwalk construction, blazing, and campsite improvements.

Dates: Saturday June 30th and Sunday, July 1st

Details:

  • The goal of the event is to mow the NCT from Cass Co. Hwy 125 east to the end of the NCT in the Chip (about 42 miles).

  • Individual volunteers or small groups can sign up for a 3-5 person team that will tackle clearing deadfall, trimming back brush along the trail’s edge, and mowing grass using walk behind mowers on 2-4 mile sections of the NCT.  No experience is necessary as training will be provided.  The total time commitment will be 4-5 hours per group.
  • We will basing out of the Mabel Lake Picnic Area located 10 miles west of Remer
