How to Volunteer

As the heart and soul of this organization, our volunteers are the most important part of our story.

Many veteran hikers and backpackers have learned that trail work is a great way to express their love of the outdoors, get physical activity in the fresh air, connect with others who have shared values and make a meaningful contribution that will be enjoyed for generations to come.  There are many ways to volunteer for the North Country Trail Association, from stuffing envelopes to building shelters.  Let us help you find the best opportunity for you!

  • Volunteer Remotely
We have many opportunities to get involved even if you don’t want to get out on the trail. We are currently seeking:
    • Legal assistance for trail easements. If interested, e-mail Andrea Ketchmark at
  • Volunteer Resources
Already a volunteer? Our volunteer Resources section will provide you with the forms and resources you need to build trail or manage your chapter.
  • Volunteers in Parks (VIP)
Our volunteers are proud to be part of the Volunteers in Parks (VIP) program of the National Park Service. Learn how they support our VIPs in their work on the North Country National Scenic Trail by ensuring a fun and safe experience.  On the VIP page, you will find:
  • Volunteer Agreements
  • Job Description Library
  • Job Hazard Analysis
  • Tailgate Safety Series
