The Harbor Springs Chapter is responsible for developing and maintaining the North Country National Scenic Trail in Emmet County, or roughly from Mackinaw City to Petoskey, about 46 miles. Trails in this area pass through large public land tracts, including parts of Wilderness State Park.

Skiing Section 7 is very challenging, but an easier cross country ski route is to start at this point and go south on Section 6.
