What are the red lines on the map?

The Grand Traverse Hiking Club web directions from Guernsey Lake to Kalkaska go parallel to M72 and into the city and the Kaliseum crossing M72 and 131 in the middle of town. The NTC map of the area has the trail crossing M72 well north west of Kalkaska and along Metzgar road north of town never coming directly into the middle of Kalkaska. I’ve looked for the road signs and see them at both places. Which is correct – the trail directly into town and the Kaliseum or along Metzgar rd crossing Beebe Rd and then 131??? Thanks!
