The Dakota Skipper was officially designated a threatened species on Oct 23, 2014– http://www.fws.gov/midwest/endangered/insects/dask/

“The 4(d) rule for the Dakota skipper exempts incidental take of Dakota skippers caused by certain routine livestock operation activities (including grazing) and mowing of recreational trails.”

Even with that exemption, I believe our Chapter has an ethical obligation to study the breeding cycle and learn if there is a time period during which we will not mow our trails. This will be a good topic for the January meeting and perhaps we can invite someone from the US Fish and Wildlife Service to talk to us.
