Aug 4 7:00 p.m. ET Opening Ceremonies and Social Hour Join Andrea Ketchmark (NCTA) and Chris Loudenslager (National Park Service) as they welcome us to the 2021 Annual Celebration! Enjoy our first night together by reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones. Recording
Aug 5 1:00 p.m. ET Hike Planning New hikers, seasoned travelers, hike leaders, and all trail lovers are welcome! NCTA staff will provide great tips, tricks, and tools for planning a successful and fun hike on the NCT, just in time for your weekend adventure. Recording
Aug 5 7:00 p.m. ET National Park Service Awards Celebrating our volunteers as they reach milestones in their volunteer hours. Recording
Aug 6-8 All weekend Hike the NCT We encourage you to get outside and on the NCT this weekend. Take photos and videos while enjoying your hike, and share them on social media (use @northcountrytrail and #nctacelebration21). Share your experiences with your Trail Community! NA
Aug 9 1:00 p.m. ET Accidental Discoveries: Endangered Species, Cultural Resources, and the North Country Trail Join Steph Liguori from the National Park Service as she discusses endangered species and cultural resource topics. Recording
Aug 9 7:00 p.m. ET Next Generation Coalition Panel An introduction to our new cohort, led by Felicia Hokenstad. Tune in to see the exciting things the Coalition has planned. Recording
Aug 10 1:00 p.m. ET Trail Ethics In 2020, outdoor recreation was at an all-time high and the NCTA encouraged users to practice Leave No Trace and #RecreateResponsibly principles. NCTA Trail Management staff will lead a discussion on how to manage and mitigate impacts to the Trail for hikers, volunteers, and more. Recording
Aug 10 7:00 p.m. ET 94 Nights on the Superior Hiking Trail The 300-mile Superior Hiking Trail has 94 backcountry campsites for hikers. Over the course of 14 years, Jo Swanson camped at all of them. She will share stories of exploration, mistakes made, lessons learned, and animals encountered. Recording
Aug 11 7:00 p.m. ET Keynote Speaker: Heather “Anish” Anderson How would your life look if you dared to follow your dream? Our life path is often like the trails we love to hike on: twisted, bumpy, steep, and with sweeping vistas. The trail can teach us many important things about being not only a successful person, but also a better human. Tune in to hear how Heather has pursued her dreams both on trail and off despite setbacks, failures, and societal pressures to the contrary and be inspired to follow your own winding path! Recording

It’s an evening filled with inspiring stories, sneak peaks of exciting things to come, and our gratitude for your support of the Trail. Aug 15 2:00 p.m. ET Watershed Journal: Writer’s Workshop Join the Watershed Journal Literary Group for a workshop session to explore how nature can inspire your writing. Presenters will touch on sensory language, imagery, and setting specific to our region of the state. Recording
Aug 16 1:00 p.m. ET Hiker Stories Join panelists as they discuss their experiences covering the highs and lows as they push on covering miles of the Trail. Recording
Aug 16 7:00 p.m. ET National Park Service Roundtable The National Park Service (NPS) roundtable is an open Q&A session and discussion with the NPS-North Country National Scenic Trail staff. Bring your questions or suggestions to this session and discuss them with NPS. Recording
Aug 17 1:00 p.m. ET Map Tools The NCTA’s GIS Program Manager and Regional Trail Coordinators will share tools and tricks for understanding and mapping property boundaries on the NCT. Great session for volunteers planning and designing new segments of Trail. Recording
Aug 17 7:00 p.m. ET Rachel Carson Loop: Closing Gaps, Creating Visions, and Building Dreams John Stephen with the Rachel Carson Trails Conservancy will share the vision (and stories from the first hike!) of a 350-mile loop trail in Western Pennsylvania, utilizing both the Rachel Carson Trails and NCT. The presentation will also incorporate the importance of landowner relations in trail and route planning. Recording
