Construct Two Campsites
The Chequamegon Chapter will be constructing two backpacker campsites–one at Lake Owen (200 yard walk one-way) and another at Nelson Lake (0.6 mile walk one-way).
The common elements will be an access trail marked by a campsite sign; three tent pads, each about 8’ x 8’; a circular campfire-cooking area, about 10’ in diameter; a fire ring of metal (Lake Owen) or stone (Nelson Lake); a register box; and three primitive benches. We will need volunteers to dig post holes, level the tent pads and cooking area, prepare the fire rings and move materials with the help of a motorized device.
If we have enough volunteers for two crews, we may finish both campsites on Saturday allowing us to build a short puncheon on Sunday. Work will be led by Kevin Schram and Mel Baughman.
Tools will be provided, but if you have a favorite Pulaski, McLeod, mattock, or lopper, bring it along. Dress for the weather and bring water, lunch, insect repellent, gloves, and work boots.
We will work in light rain, but will end our work if a thunderstorm threatens. If severe weather is forecast for either day, we will send a work cancellation email the afternoon before the workday to volunteers who RSVP.
