Build a Campsite Workday
Help the Chequamegon Chapter finish the Nelson Lake Campsite.
Kevin Schram will lead a workday to complete this project that was started on May 24. We need to fine-tune the access trail and make short trails from each of three tent pads to the campfire-cooking area. We also need to make a trail to the lake to improve water access.
We’ll start by removing leaves and sticks from the trail with rakes, then smooth out the trail by removing rocks and roots (hopefully there will not be many) using a rock bar, mattock, or pulaski. Finally, we will move soil with a Mcleod to smooth out the tread.
Assemble at the Reynard Lake Road trailhead on the southern border of the Rainbow Lake Wilderness. We will carry tools and hike 0.6 miles on the NCT to the campsite. The trail passes over low hills and through hardwood forest.
We recommend that you bring bug defense, plenty of water, food, work gloves and sturdy boots.
Please RSVP to Kevin at mail2schram@gmail.com so we can provide enough tools and let Kevin know if you have a tool preference. People who RSVP will be notified of a cancellation or delay by email. This information will also be posted to the Chapter’s Facebook page.
