Build New Tread on the Canthook Lake Reroute
Join the Chequamegon Chapter to continue our Canthook Lake Reroute.
We will assemble at 8:30 am each day and work until about 3:00 pm, although volunteers may depart whenever necessary.
Our meeting location is Canthook Lake on Canthook Lake Road, south of Iron River and west of Delta, WI:
• From Iron River go south on County H, turn right (southwest) on Scenic Drive just past Eagle Lake, turn right (southwest) on Canthook Lake Road and continue to Canthook Lake.
• From Delta go northwest on County H, turn left (southwest) on Scenic Drive, turn left on Canthook Lake Road and continue to Canthook Lake.
Look for an NCTA event sign at the turn-in.
Mel Baughman will lead both workdays. Chainsaw work has been accomplished, but we will use loppers and a power blower, then build tread from scratch through the forest with pulaskis, mattocks, and McLeod tools. We will be satisfied with a rough trail since we have a long distance to cover during the remainder of the summer.
Tools will be provided, but if you have a favorite, bring it. If you’d like use the blower to clear leaves and small branches from the trail corridor, bring ear plugs, although ear covers also will be provided.
Wear boots and gloves and bring insect repellent, food, and water. We do not expect any muddy conditions. We will start building trail right from the parking area so there will be no long walk-in.
Please RSVP to Mel (baugh001@umn.edu) by 5:00 pm on Thursday, July 9 so we can provide enough tools and plan crew organization. People who RSVP will be notified of a cancellation or delay by email in early evening on the day before the workday. The long-range weather forecast calls for sunshine and warm temperatures.
