National Trails Day, Grand Traverse Hike and Potluck
Please join the NCTA Grand Traverse Hiking Club Chapter for a nature hike along beautiful Hodenpyl Dam Pond and a potluck feast to celebrate National Trails Day! We will start with a hike on the NCNST, leaving from the campground and heading toward Vermont. There will be a choice of two guided hikes. Both are out-and-back with no shuttle.
Long Hike Option: Fletcher Creek Campground to the entrance to Northern Exposure Campground and back, a distance of 5.4 miles. If anyone wants to, they could possibly continue farther to the bridge, a total round trip of 7 miles. Meet at 9:00 a.m. at the parking lot.
Short Hike Option: Fletcher Creek Campground to the Northern Exposure Trailhead and back for a total of 3 miles. Meet at 10:00 a.m. at the parking lot.
These hikes will be mostly on sandy, gentle trails with few roots. Come prepared with a water bottle, hiking shoes and rain gear. After the hike, we will enjoy a potluck lunch at Campsite #27.
To be provided by Grand Traverse Hiking Club: Hot dogs, buns, condiments, drinking water.
Please bring: Dish to pass with serving utensil, eating plates and utensils, beverage of your choice (drinking water will be provided), and a folding chair since picnic tables are very limited.
From Mesick, drive west on M-115 for 1.3 miles, turn south (left) onto N Hodenpyl Dam Road. After 1/10 mile, turn left onto Fletcher Park Road and follow it to the road’s end. We will meet at Campsite #27 which is the last campsite. You can park where the road ends in a turnaround.
