Monthly Meeting, Grand Traverse Hiking Club Chapter
Join the NCTA Grand Traverse Hiking Club Chapter‘s monthly meeting as Jill and Kent Nordin offer a presentation about their backpacking trip through the Wind River Range in Wyoming. The “Winds” are a 100-mile mountain chain that is home to the highest peak in the state, and home to 19 of the 20 highest peaks in the state. While Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks get a lot of well-deserved attention, the Winds are a backpackers paradise. The Continental Divide forms the spine of the range and the benchlands on the southwestern flank of the divide offer unparalleled hiking, numerous lakes and streams, and endless backpacking options at 8,000-11,000 feet above sea level. Three Wilderness areas protect the heart of the range.
Join them for their loop through the Cirque of the Towers with some of the highest quality granite peaks anywhere. They used Texas Pass and a rock garden scramble past Arrowhead Lake to get “off trail” and enjoy the solitude the Winds have to offer.
Attendance is limited to 100. Email the Chapter with questions at gtr@northcountrytrail.org.
