Hike Deadman’s Hill to Warner Creek Trailhead
The NCTA Jordan Valley 45° Chapter will be hosting a snowshoe hike on January 20. We will meet at hikes-end at the Warner Creek Trailhead (Michigan mile 660) on M-32 (about 3 miles west of US-131) at 10:00 a.m., and driving hikers to Deadman’s Hill Overlook at 10:30. The overlook is at the end of E. Deadman’s Hill Road (near mile marker 663). If there is deep snow, the road may not be plowed all the way to the trailhead. Following the hike, we can ferry drivers back to Deadman’s.
Aside from the steep hill into the valley near Deadman’s, the terrain is mostly flat. Snowshoes will likely be required so watch the weather. There will be three options:
- Deadman’s Hill south about a mile on the Jordan River Pathway (marker 14) and then down into the valley (marker 3, mile 663.75),. Pass under Deadman’s and north to M-32 via Warner Creek Pathway (about 7.4 miles).
- Deadman’s north to M-32 plus Warner Creek Pathway (about 5.2 miles).
- Deadman’s north to M-32; skip Warner Creek Pathway (about 3.7 miles).
Along the way we will check out a beaver dam on Jordan River Road, the 2021 reroute, and the new bridge on O’Brien Pond. Typically, we have a faster group that could do Options 1 or 2, and then all would rendezvous at the Warner Creek Trailhead at the end.
Watch the forecast and dress for the weather. Snow shoes may be required. Bring water, snacks and a camera. If you can’t bring a friend, one will be provided. If there is interest, we may go to Forx in Elmira for pops and sandwiches afterwards.
