Join the Jordan Valley 45° Chapter for a hike from Springvale Rd. to Chandler Hill Rd. and then to Thumb Lake Rd. (8.0 miles)

This beautiful section of trail is hilly and runs the crest of the high ridge that runs north/south between I75 and US131 from south of Petoskey to Thumb Lake Rd. Most of the trail is high and dry through old growth forest. Highlights along the way include a big marsh, a sink hole, and creek crossings. There is a fairly tiring hike up Chandler Hill, which goes uphill for the better part of a mile toward Thumb Lake Rd.

Meet at the trail crossing on Thumb Lake Rd. & Slashing Rd. (Mile 85.50) at 9:30 and drive hikers to the start on Springvale Rd. (Mile 77.5) at 10:00. After the hike we will ferry drivers back to the start at Springvale Rd.

Short Hike Option: By trail, Chandler Hill Rd. is about 4.75 miles south of the start at Springvale Rd. From there it is another 3.25 Miles to Thumb Lake Rd. If there is interest, we can post some cars at Chandler Hill Rd.

Dress for the weather and bring trail snacks and water. We will scout out the trail ahead of the hike. If conditions prohibit hiking this section, we will cancel or relocate the hike. Watch your email, Facebook and the NCTA Events Calendar.

The Jordan Valley 45° Chapter trail runs from Starvation Lake Rd., near Kalkaska, to Kipp Rd. in Harbor Springs, about 80 miles of awesome valleys, hills and wooded trail. Monthly hikes are usually on the 3rd Saturday of the month. If you can’t bring a friend, one will be provided.
