This section of NCNST is absolutely one of the best in our Chapter’s (“J45”) section. For the NCTA Jordan Valley 45° Chapter‘s monthly hike, we will meet at the Trail crossing at Krause Road (Michigan NCNST Mile 614.5) at 10:00 a.m. At 10:30 we will drive hikers to the start at Springvale Road (625.25). We should be on the Trail before 11:00.

This longer hike will be about 11 miles north by trail. After the hike we will ferry drivers back to the start at Springvale Road. See the mile markers here. There are shorter hike options, too (you park where you start):

• Starting at Maxwell Road (619.5) reduces the hike to ~6 miles.
• Starting at Johnson Road (617.25) reduces the hike to ~ 4 miles.
• Start at Krause Road (614.5) and head south to meet the people heading north and then back to Krause Road.
• Starting at Welsh Road (620.5) reduces the hike to 8 miles.

Come prepared for the weather. Don’t forget plenty of water and snacks for the trail. Bring your own snacks and pops.

This fantastic section of Trail is hilly and runs the crest of the high ridge that runs north/south between I-75 and US-131 from south of Petoskey to Thumb Lake. Most of the Trail is high and dry with lots of old growth sections.
