Jordan Valley East End Loop Hike
Join the NCTA Jordan Valley 45° Chapter for a loop hike from the Jordan Valley National Fish Hatchery to Deadman’s Hill and back (about 7.75 miles). We’re hosting two hike options on November 11 in the northeast part of the Jordan Valley. About 3.6 miles is on the NCNST and 4.15 is on the Jordan River Pathway. See map and mile markers here.) We will gather at the Jordan Valley National Fish Hatchery (at the end of Turner Rd west of US-131) at 9:30 a.m. We will head out promptly at 10:00.
The long hike option is a 7.75-mile, counterclockwise loop:
- From the hatchery, about 0.7 miles up Turner Road to the Jordan River Pathway crossing
- Turner Road to Deadman’s Overlook (2.2 miles)
- Deadman’s Overlook to register box at foot of access trail to NCNST (0.6 miles)
- Register box to Jordan River Road at “Three Tubes” (3.6 miles)
- JR Road at Three Tubes to hatchery (0.75 miles)
The short hike option is just under 5 miles, starting at Deadman’s Hill parking. (Somehow, we will get you back to your car!)
Aside from the 0.7-mile uphill on Turner Road and the half-mile downhill on Deadman’s Hill, this hike is on fairly flat terrain. Sights include the Deadman’s Overlook, various springs, an unnamed beaver pond and the Jordan River.
Dress for the weather, bring plenty of water and snacks. If we have a quorum, afterwards we may go somewhere afterwards (Forx in Elmira or Green Lantern in Alba) for pops and fries.
