Western Michigan Chapter Hike – Newaygo Full Moon Hike
The Western Michigan Chapter is partnering with the Muskegon River Watershed Assembly to bring you an additional hike to kick off 2026. We encourage everyone to try to attend! Experience the Muskegon River the way few have seen it before as MRWA hosts a riverside Moonlight Hike and bonfire on Saturday, January 31 in Croton Township.
The hike will be approximately 1.5 miles long and is estimated to take the average hiker about an hour, depending upon conditions. If there is a lot of snow, snowshoes will be encouraged.
Hikers will meet near Croton dam at the large parking lot off of Swan Ave north of Croton Drive at 5:30pm. From there, hikers will shuttle to the start of the hike and walk back to their vehicle.
Timing should be right to catch the sunset during a walk through the woods and the full moon, known as the “Snow Moon,” from the bluff of the Muskegon River.
Following the hike, a bonfire will be hosted on the banks of the Muskegon River by MRWA and neighbors Denise and Mike Anderson on property they own nearby. The event is free and we would love to have you join us for fun and fellowship.
Reminder: Michigan winters can be unpredictable. Consider the weather and footing when you hike. And, as always, safety first.
