Location map for the Laurentian Lakes Chapter

This is the on-line home of the Laurentian Lakes Chapter of the North Country Trail Association.  We are the 2nd newest NCTA chapter in Minnesota and are responsible for developing and maintaining the North Country National Scenic Trail in Clearwater and Becker Counties in northwest Minnesota.  Our chapter name is derived from the fact that the NCT follows the Laurentian Divide  and passes near several large lakes along it in our area.

Our trail section runs from the intersection of the Nicollet and Eagle Scout Trails in the middle of Itasca State Park through Clearwater County to the Becker – Ottertail County border south of the City of Frazee.

In the past two years (2012-13), we used a Legacy Trail grant to hire the Conservation Corps of Minnesota to help us construct approximately 20 additional miles from Greenwater Lake Scientific and Natural Area south through Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge (see map below). Construction within Hubbel Pond Wildlife Management Area will be completed within 2014.

We hosted a Grand Opening celebration for this new segment on National Trails Day 2013.  The NCT is currently completed and hikeable south to the southeastern corner of Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge / northeastern corner of Hubbel Pond WMA.  From there, the NCT follows roads south to Frazee, a distance of 14 miles.  A route through the City of Frazee is signed and marked.
