The North Country National Scenic Trail is the country’s newest and longest national scenic trail, stretching 4,800 miles east to west across eight states from North Dakota to Maine Junction in Vermont. Few people have hiked the entire trail. Joan H. Young, an author and avid hiker living in Michigan, has hiked it twice. She completed her first hike of the North Country Trail over the course of 20 years as the trail’s route was still expanding and evolving, finishing in 2010. Throughout 2021-2023, she completed her second hike of the trail.

Join Joan for stories, advice, and photos from her North Country Trail experiences in this virtual presentation.

Joan is a mystery writer and the author of three books about the North Country Trail, including her latest, “How to Hike the North Country Trail: Not Quite a Guide.”

The Green Mountain Club strives to provide free programming and workshops for all. If you are able, please consider an optional donation at registration to support broad access to hiker resources and education.
