Nestled in the heart of northern Minnesota, the neighboring communities of Cohasset and Grand Rapids form a welcoming Trail Town duo along the North Country Trail. Together, they offer hikers the best of both worlds: the quiet, nature-first charm of a small northern town and the vibrant amenities of a regional hub.
Cohasset invites hikers into a peaceful landscape of pines, lakes, and river views – a place where the woods feel close and the pace slows naturally. It’s an ideal stop for reflection, water refills, wildlife watching, and connecting with a community that values its deep ties to the land. From moonlit hikes to friendly waves from locals, Cohasset embodies the calm, restorative spirit of the trail.
Just down the road, Grand Rapids brings energy, culture, and full-service convenience to the trail experience. With lodging, dining, gear, groceries, and a lively arts scene, it’s a perfect spot for resupply, rest days, or exploring beyond the trail. Riverfront parks, museums, and community events give hikers plenty of ways to enjoy the city’s warm, creative atmosphere.
Together, these two towns create a seamless, supportive corridor for North Country Trail adventurers – one that blends natural beauty, community pride, and genuine northern hospitality.
Hikers Note: The NCT does not travel directly through Cohasset’s business district, but the Cohasset post office is approximately 2 miles off the trail, along with other amenities such as Dollar General, a gas station, and Florio’s Bar and Grill restaurant. The trail proceeds directly through Grand Rapids, and the post office is one block off the trail in downtown Grand Rapids on 1st Avenue NW. Many other businesses are located near the trail in Grand Rapids, offering hikers a variety of support.
The Arrowhead Chapter of the NCTA is responsible for the North Country Trail section in the Cohasset and Grand Rapids area.
