What’s It All About?
To celebrate National Trails Day, the Brule-St. Croix, Chequamegon, and Heritage Chapters will meet together for hikes, paddle sports, and a potluck. The public is welcome to this free event!

*All events start at the Highland Town Hall.
*The event will be held rain or shine, but to be notified about any last-minute schedule changes due to weather, RSVP on Meetup.com.

Schedule:
*8:00 Highland Town Hall (HTH) Opens

*8:30 Assemble for 5.5-mile (2.5 – 3.0 hr.) hike from HTH to Jersett Creek campsite and return. Pink lady slippers are often blooming at this time of year among the pines at the beginning of this hike. The hike descends into and ascends from forested ravines following the rim of the Brule River Valley.

*9:00 Assemble for 5.0-mile (2.0 – 2.5 hr.) hike. We will caravan to Gaylord Nelson Portal and hike 5.0 miles back to HTH. This hike starts and ends in pine forest with Motts Ravine State Natural Area in the middle.

*11:30 Set up for Potluck. Bring your own beverages (no alcohol) and a dish to share, but keep cold
foods cold and hot foods hot. Limited refrigerator space and electrical outlets available in Highland Town Hall. Plates, tableware, napkins, and cups provided.

*12:00 Potluck – YUM! A brief introduction by chapter leaders to the three Wisconsin Chapters and the North Country Trail.

*1:00+Afternoon will be on your own. HTH will close once potluck is cleaned up. Here are some ideas for your afternoon fun: Green and underlined have camping available.

1) Canoe or Kayak Brule River, see Brule River Canoe Rental or WI DNR Recreation Paddling for more information.
-Stone’s Bridge landing is 1 mile from HTH going north on Hwy S.
-Winneboujou landing is 10 miles from HTH (13402 E County Road B, Lake Nebagamon, 54849)
-Bois Brule Campground with canoe landing is 13 miles from HTH (6250 Ranger Road, Brule, WI 54820)

2) Hike other sections of the North Country Trail. (Address or Lat, Long, Miles from HTH) –
– St. Croix Lake Trailhead / Palmer’s Landing (46.379591, -91.777290, 8.6 miles) – Hike either the Brule Bog Boardwalk or the Historic Portage Trail
– US 53 Trailhead (46.328152, -91.822226, 18 miles) or Bird Road Trailhead (46.290008, -91.825205, 21 miles), hike through Douglas Country Forest / Bird Sanctuary, camp at Lucius Woods County Park (9231 E Marion Ave, Solon Springs, WI 54873, 13 miles)
-Gordon Dam County Park (7201 Co Rd Y, Gordon, WI 54838, 28 miles) Moose River/Mail Road Trailhead (46.255836, -91.964355, 28 miles) – see Gibson cabin (between Moose River trailhead and Gordon Dam County Park), St. Croix National Riverway, camp at Gordon Dam County Park.

3) Visit a State Park: Visit Amnicon Falls (4279 County Road U, South Range, WI 54874, 22 miles) or Pattison State Parks (6294 WI-35, Superior WI, 54880, 30 miles)
