We will meet for the September hike on Saturday, September 6 at the Freesoil Trailhead (east of Freesoil, MI) at 10 AM and hike northbound from the trailhead. This is at milepost 835.25 on the ArcGIS map. Alternatively, here is a a Google Map with driving directions.

This area is gently rolling and starts in an area known as the Big Bear Swamp. The trail is on an old narrow gauge railroad bed so it is dry. The parking area is fairly small so please carpool. You can also park on the forest road adjacent to the trailhead, locally known as Elk Hwy. There isn’t a fee for this trailhead. The hike leader will be Glen Van Antwerp.

*Celebrate after the hike: We are also celebrating the North Country National Scenic Trail day on this date (a few weeks early). In honor of NCNST Day, Dan and Jenn Driesenga have invited everyone to a brats and hamburgers BBQ at their nearby cottage after the hike. We will have directions to the location of the picnic and will hand them out at the hike. Please bring potluck appetizers or side dishes if you would like to add to the picnic celebration.
