2025 NCTA Volunteer Awards: Leadership
This award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership over 3+ years, leading to significant local achievements or highly successful events.
Glenn + Barb Cazier
Glenn and Barb have been involved with the NCTA Western Michigan Chapter for well over a decade. They’re Trail Adopters; Glenn is a certified sawyer and is considered an “institution” within the maintenance crew. Barb tables numerous events on behalf of the Chapter, and assisted with the Chapter’s first-time backpacker program this spring. They frequently support day and section hikers with trailhead shuttling, and they host long-distance hikers at their home, where they offer both lodging and laundry. They also host annual Chapter events on their property, welcoming dozens of people. Glenn stated that hiking is now more than a hobby for them, thanks to the North Country Trail Association and its volunteers.
Peg Schmidt Fuller
Peg has been with the Finger Lakes Trail Conference (FLTC) since 2001 and is a dedicated trail maintainer in Chenango County, New York. Through the Bullthistle Hiking Club, she oversees an active guided hike program on the North Country Trail, Finger Lakes Trail, and other local trails. She also holds multiple leadership roles on the FLTC Board of Managers. She leads many hikes and organized a very successful fall weekend celebration for the FLTC. Peg cultivates a culture of appreciation. Her collaborative, enthusiastic, and encouraging nature has elevated the work of both staff and volunteers for these trail systems.
Mary Moberg
For 15 years, Mary has been deeply involved in the development and leadership of the NCTA Dakota Prairie Chapter, and has been active at the national level, too. She has attended nearly every NCTA Celebration event since 2007 and even co-organized North Dakota’s in 2016. Her patient and thoughtful nature allows her to provide valuable perspectives over the years. When she and her husband Tom made the decision to move away from North Dakota, she worked hard to ensure a smooth transition in Chapter leadership. And now, from multiple time zones away, she continues to attend monthly meetings and contribute valuable information and thoughts to the Chapter.
