On June 24th, volunteers with the Laurentian Lakes Chapter replaced a crumbling boardwalk damaged by ATVs and built a new 82′ long boardwalk to replace it.  The location of the project is about 3 miles east of the County Hwy 39 trailhead (just west of Itasca State Park’s western boundary) on NCTA hiking map #MN-10.

Here’s some more information from Ray Vlasak…

Last Wednesday the new boardwalk east of the Bad Medicine Lake Trail was installed. It is 82 feet long and should last a long time. The center sections are 35 feet long and were constructed with used power poles donated by the Itasca Mantrap Electric Co-op. If power poles are being replaced or removed in your area, ask if they could be donated to your chapter. They are a great way for us to save money (on materials) and now we have experience in handling them.

Thanks go to the Laurentian Lakes Chapter, especially Ray Vlasak, Karen Stenberg, Gary Narum, Chuck Church, John Backes, and Jim Lutterell for this wonderful new spot on the trail.
