2026 NCTA Volunteer Awards: Outstanding Private Landowner
Outstanding Private Landowner Awards are presented to those whose leadership, accommodation and active collaboration have substantially benefited the North Country Trail.
UPM Blandin
By welcoming the North Country Trail across its forestlands and embracing a spirit of partnership, the UPM Blandin has helped preserve access to some of Northern Minnesota’s most beautiful landscapes. Their willingness to share their land, support trail development, and recognize the trail’s value in conservation planning reflects a deep commitment to stewardship and the public good. The Arrowhead Chapter is profoundly grateful for UPM Blandin’s trust, collaboration, and vision. Because of their generosity, hikers today – and in generations to come – can experience the beauty, connection, and inspiration that the trail provides here.
Robert Zuch
Robert’s generosity has transformed the North Country Trail and the community that surrounds it. He not only welcomed the trail onto his property, creating a safer and more scenic route, but also donated his time, equipment, and resources to create a trailhead, build a hiker shelter, and provide water access to trail users. He has become a dedicated volunteer – maintaining trail, supporting outreach events, attending Wampum Chapter meetings, and helping secure future trail connections. Robert’s kindness, stewardship, and selfless spirit have created a lasting legacy that will benefit hikers well into the future.
