Wild Things on a Trail
“Wild Things on a Trail” is a fun family event that is designed to introduce families to the adventure of exploring the
North Country Trail with the Jordan Valley 45 Chapter. Kids are delighted to find cardboard cutouts of the characters from Maurice Sendak’s beloved story, Where the Wild Things Are, as they make appearances among the trees and ferns. Children and adults alike will have a chance to snap photos beside these colorful figures, turning a simple hike into an imaginative adventure. Whether you’re a long-time trail enthusiast or just beginning to explore the North Country Trail, this event promises moments of discovery, laughter, and wonder for all ages.
Look for the NCT sign that marks the trailhead on the west side of Krause Rd. This trail section is not paved and includes some hills, switchbacks and one sandy stretch, so may not be appropriate for children in strollers. Volunteers will recommend a hike distance for each family depending on the age and ability of the hikers. The distance from the parking area to the observation deck (site of the last Wild Thing) and back to the parking area is one mile, which is doable for most groups. This is an out-and-back hike. There are no restrooms available.
Participants are encouraged to snap photos of their budding hikers and post them (#WildThingsNCT), spreading the word about our awesome local trail.
