The Fifth Annual Three Chapters Hiking Festival, hosted by the  Dakota Prairie, Sheyenne River Valley, and Central Flyway Chapters, will take place Friday-Sunday, August 14-16, 2026, so make your plans and mark your calendars!

Schedule of Events
Friday, August 14
4:00pm
: Arrive at Fort Abercrombie Visitor Center & Medicine Wheel. Learn the history of Fort Abercrombie from historian Lenny Krueger
5:00pm: Picnic in Aber Pavilion Park, free will offering
6:00-7:30pm: Walk to Medicine Wheel and learn about the healthy aspects of certain plants and bushes for humans with Christy Goulet, Native American medicine woman. Total 3 miles, on your own.

Saturday, August 15
9:00am
: Meet at the trailhead of Sheyenne River Overlook (Berg) and hike to Ekre Grassland Preserve, (5 Miles), hike the loop trail (2 miles, optional), and see the two original (1860 and 1873) log cabins. Bag lunch (bring your own). After lunch, continue hike west 6.5 miles to Jorgen’s Hollow Campsite. Shuttle back to cars, drive to Crooked Lane Farm.
5:00pm: Hay ride to Dakota Vines Winery, across the Wild Rice River from Crooked Lane Farm, (located east of Colfax on CR 4, watch for signs). Have Pizza, hor d’oeuvres, and beverages, (winery offers beer, soda, and their own wine – cost on your own), travel back to Crooked Lane Farm on hay wagon.
7:00pm: Entertainment by Merrill Piepkorn and Loy Larson
9:00om: S’mores and NCT in ND Jeopardy Game with prizes

Sunday: August 16
9:00am
: Meet at Colfax School Parking lot. Hike to Walcott (6.5 Miles), eat lunch at Brewzers in Walcott (optional), shuttle back to Colfax
