Deadman’s Hill to Warner Creek (M32)
Join the Jordan Valley 45° Chapter for a winter hike!
Meet at hikes-end at the Warner Creek Trailhead (near mile marker 105.0) on M32, about 3 miles west of US131, at 9:30 am and drive hikers to Deadman’s Hill Overlook at 10:00am. The overlook is at the end of E. Deadman’s Hill Road (near mile marker 108.0).
If there is deep snow, the road might not be plowed all the way to the trailhead.
Following the hike, we can ferry drivers back to Deadman’s.
See map and mile markers here.
Aside from the steep hills into the valley near Deadman’s, the terrain is mostly flat. We will be flexible depending on weather conditions and group size. Upon arrival at the Warner Creek Trailhead on M-32, we will make a final hike plan.
There will be three hike options:
1. Longer Hike: Deadman’s south about a mile on the Jordan River Pathway (marker 14) and then down into the valley (marker 3, mile 108.75), pass under Deadman’s and north to M-32 via Warner Creek Pathway, ~7.5 miles (~6.0 if we skip Warner Creek).
2. Short Hike 1: Deadman’s north to M-32 plus Warner Creek Pathway, ~5.2 miles
3. Short Hike 2: Deadman’s north to M-32, ~3.7 miles (if we skip Warner Creek Pathway)
Along the way we will check out potential repair work needed below Deadman’s, a new bridge on Jordan River Rd, the 2021 reroute, and the Beaver Deceiver on O’Brien Pond. Typically, we have a faster group that could do option 1 or 2 and then all would rendezvous at the Warner Creek Trailhead at the end.
Watch the forecast and dress for the weather. Snowshoes may be required. Bring water, snacks and a camera. If you can’t bring a friend, one will be provided.
If there is interest afterwards, we may go to Fox Restaurant in Elmira for pops and sandwiches.
The Jordan Valley 45° Chapter trail runs from Starvation Lake Rd. to Kipp Rd. in Harbor Springs, almost 80 miles of awesome valleys, hills and wooded trail.
