The Kalkaska Downtown Development Authority (DDA), Village of Kalkaska (VOK), North Country Trail Association (NCTA) and Grand Traverse Chapter are excited to celebrate the grand opening of our new US-131 Kalkaska Trailhead and rerouted NCT trail into the Village of Kalkaska over the new Boardman River Boardwalk!

The celebration takes place on Saturday, May 31st, includes a Trailhead Dedication with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 11:30am, guided hikes of two distances (2.25 miles and 6 miles), and ends with a free community picnic at Railroad Square.

No parking will be available at the trailhead for this event, but a shuttle bus service will be provided from the Kalkaska Municipal parking lot at Third and Walnut Street to the hike starting points.

Meet at 8:00am for the long hike and 9:30am for the short hike. Both hikes will end at the new trailhead.

For those who do not plan to hike, a shuttle bus will be available to transport you from the municipal lot to the new trailhead at 10:30am.

After a short ceremony, shuttle busses will again be available to shuttle attendees and hikers the half mile to Railroad Square for the picnic.
