North Country Trail Association

Vermont

The North Country Trail route was officially extended into Vermont in 2019 with the passage of the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act.

The route on the ground remains in the planning phase, but the proposed extension will add 45+ miles to the North Country National Scenic Trail. It will extend east across the New York/Vermont state line to meet with the Long Trail and eventually connect with the Appalachian National Scenic Trail at Maine Junction.

The route’s corridor passes through scenic public lands including the Green Mountain National Forest and Moosalamoo National Recreation Area, and includes the existing North Country Trail that follows the Trail Around Middlebury (TAM), constructed and managed by the Middlebury Area Land Trust, an NCTA Affiliate partner.
