Valley of the Giants Cross-Chapter Hike
Join the NCTA Jordan Valley 45° Chapter in a cross-chapter hike in an awesome section maintained by the NCTA Grand Traverse Hiking Club Chapter.
Hike – Meet at Scheck’s Place State Forest Campground at the Boardman River Crossing on Brown Bridge Rd. at 10:00am and head out by 10:30. We will hike South about 4.0 miles and back; about 8 miles total (less if you want to turn back early). We will probably finish by around 3:pm or so.
This section is a combination of hills, swamps (beaver dams) and old growth forest, the Valley of the Giants. Watch the forecast and dress for the weather. We will picnic somewhere along the trail, so bring plenty of goodies and water to drink.
Directions:
• US 131 to South Boardman (South of Kalkaska about 10 miles).
• Go West on Supply Rd. about 6 miles to Brown Bridge Rd.
• Take Brown Bridge Rd Southwest about 4 miles to the Boardman River Crossing (Scheck’s Place State Forest Campground).

About the Chapters:
The Jordan Valley 45° Chapter trail runs from Starvation Lake Rd. near Mancelona to Kipp Rd. in Harbor Springs, approximately 79 miles of awesome valleys, hills and wooded trails. Monthly hikes are usually on the 3rd Saturday of the month. The Grand Traverse Hiking Club section of the NCT covers over 100 miles, beginning at Beers Rd. South Hodenpyl Dam and continues northeast to Starvation Lake Rd.
