It’s a hike! It’s a trail work event! It’s BOTH!

Here is a day to give back to the trail we all love to use! Help the Hiawatha Shore-to-Shore Chapter get the trail in tip-top shape.

You have never worked so FUN! We have a tool that will fit your hand!
The NCTA Celebration is coming in August! Hikes during that event will happen up and down the NCT in the Eastern UP. We need to make sure the trail is ready. Our summer monthly hikes in 2024 will be both hikes and trail work events this year. The amount of work is such that your efforts are needed and will be greatly appreciated!

Tasks will include lopping branches, painting blazes, clearing downfalls, and making sure the trail is easy to follow.
The plan is to send one group to the mouth of the Two Hearted River via carpool and have them work back to Culhane Lake while the other group will head to CR414 and work north to Culhane Lake. The more people that show up will make for easy work. If we get a crowd, some may be sent to work/hike between CR500 and the Upper Falls.

The Culhane Lake Boat Launch is found on north side of Culhane Lake, just east of the State Forest Campground and just west of the Culhane Lake Resort on County Road 500. Take M-123 either north from Newberry or west from Paradise. West of the Upper Falls, CR-500 travels north off M-123. This dirt road can be slow traveling so plan some extra time. CR 500 is the road marked for Crisp Point Lighthouse

BRING: Clothing that can get dirty. Work gloves and a second pair, solid footwear, water, a snack or a lunch, personal first aid, and a friend! We will need to record your name and contact information.

After the work day we will gather at a nearby location for refueling and refreshment.

Questions? Comments? Text Tom Walker at (906) 322-2617. Cell phone service is spotty along the trail so there may not be an answer the day of the event.

If you are available to work on other days, let us know and we most likely can gather a few more folks to do some work as well.
