This trail crew project with the Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) is an experiential, cooperative trail work project for anyone 14 years or older. We’ll spend our time putting the finishing touches on a new section of the North Country National Scenic Trail at Jones Hill in the Hoffman Notch Wilderness. Our volunteer group will be putting finishing touches on benching started last year, posting markers, checking and improving drainage. This program is great for anyone who is eager to learn about trail work and give back to the trails they love. No prior experience is necessary.

Non-motorized, basic hand tools will be used to complete the trail project mentioned above. Volunteers should expect to use tools such as a rock bar, pick mattock, shovel, hand saw, hammer/sledge, axe, and pruning shears. Instruction how to use these tools properly and safely will be discussed prior to beginning work by Crew Leaders. Be prepared to work hard physically, get your hands dirty and have fun!

Instructions on where and when to meet will be provided upon registration.

While highly rewarding, trail work is also physically and mentally demanding. Participants should be prepared to carry heavy packs, work in the rain, bugs, and mud! We will work in virtually any and all-weather conditions. While no prior experience is necessary, good physical condition, proper clothing, and proper equipment are a must!

Volunteers will provide their own food and lodging. Schroon Lake village offers many motel and B&B opportunities. Limited complimentary camping is available in a first come/first served basis. If interested, details will be provided upon registration.

Join like-minded trail folks and become involved literally on the ground floor of this project while soaking up the Adirondack ambience. Join us for all five days, just the weekend or a day or two. Space is limited.

Health insurance and proof of COVID-19 vaccination are required to participate in the program.
