ANF Chapter October Trail Work Day
Make a difference and have fun helping the NCTA Allegheny National Forest Chapter reroute 0.25 miles of North Country Trail! This section of the established trail is along an old railroad grade with failed drainage. Student Conservation Association trail crews rerouted two sections of the trail in this area over a decade ago. Our work would connect these two sections and move an additional 0.1 miles of trail upslope to avoid the wet railroad grade and two failing bridges.
Our meeting time is 10 AM on Saturday, Oct 5 at the Henrys Mill Trailhead. It’s located on Rt 666 at N 41°38.158’ W 079° 02.569’ about 3.5 miles south of Rt 948 on the SE side of the bridge over the Tionesta Creek. You can also follow this link to the spot on the NCTA interactive map.
We will be hiking in about a mile to get to the reroute area. Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather, and bring your own water, food, and work gloves. All tools are provided and no special skills are needed. We encourage people new to trail work to come out and give back to the trail. There will be a job for you and a person to teach you what to do. Remember that “many hands make light work.” Hope to see you there!
