14th Annual Emma “Grandma” Gatewood Solstice (EGGS) Hike and Campout
The Buckeye Trail Association is teaming up with the BTA’s Little Cities of the Forest Chapter, Ohio DNR, the North Country Trail Association, the American Discovery Trail Society, the Wayne National Forest, and Burr Oak State Park. We are offering five hiking challenges consisting of 20 (day and night), 40, 60, and 80 miles that need to be completed in 12, 24, 36, and 48 hours respectively.
The challenges begin Thursday, June 22 at noon and end on Sunday, June 25 at noon. All will be in Burr Oak State Park and on the Wildcat Hollow Backpack Trail.
This is to honor a founding member of the BTA and the first female to solo thru-hike the Appalachian Trail, Emma “Grandma” Gatewood: An Ohio native and long time advocate of ultralight backpacking. She was also the first woman to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail two times.
Please contact the BTA Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@buckeyetrail.org for more information on how to volunteer for the event.
The cost is $40 for current Buckeye Trail Association members or $50 for non-members. Cost includes event shirt, camping for all three nights, Friday night cookout, breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, and dinner Saturday night. The cost for attendees who are only camping is $20. There is no walk‐in registration during the event. All persons attending the event must be registered whether hiking or not.
Registration closes at midnight on June 11, 2023.
