Each year the NCTA Chief Noonday Chapter reaches out to our members in Calhoun County by having our meeting closer to home for them! In October, our meeting will again be held at Stirling Books & Brew (119 N. Superior St., Albion, MI).

Not only does Stirling Books have great coffee, tea, cookies and other treats, but we have a very special guest speaker Val Rossman on foraging and cooking.

Recent food prices busting your budget? Free tasty wild organic food grows all around you and likely right in your yard. Val Rossman’s foraging lifestyle started with hickory nuts, black raspberries and bluegills as a kid and a day doesn’t go by without wild food as part of her meals. Her wild food creations have brought her numerous wins at the Midwest Wild Harvest Festival and the Great Lakes Forager’s gathering cooking competitions. She’ll share how to get started safely, some easy items to look for as well as some samples. Val has logged hiking miles on the NCT, AT and completed the entire 530 miles Camino De Santiago Frances for her 60th birthday. World adventuring, kayaking, sailing, skiing, gardening, cycling, beekeeping and wine making keep her moving when she’s not in her pottery studio.

Val does not make public appearances as a norm, so we are appreciative to have her share her knowledge and experience with us at this very personal forum in Albion.

A brief business meeting will follow the presentation.

Some members are likely to enjoy dinner prior to the meeting. Nothing formal, but Cascarelli’s and Malleable Brewing, both on Main St. are the likely options. Contact Eric Longman at ericnct@gmail.com if you want to join so we can give these restaurants some type of advance notice.
