Work off Thanksgiving BWS (Beached Whale Syndrome) by joining hikers from the Grand Traverse Chapter of the North Country Trail Association to hike a beautiful area with paths meandering through meadows and upland forests, including a superb view of Traverse City from the top of Hickory Hill.

We’ll meet at noon at the Hickory Meadows trailhead, at the west end of Randolph street in Traverse City.

We’ll first hike the 2 mile meadow trail, at an easy, flat 2 mile per hour pace that will bring us back to the parking lot. Then those who wish can hike up to the top of the ski hill and the adjacent woods for another 2 miles. The hill is steep, but worth it for the view (assuming good weather). For this part, hiking boots and poles would be very useful.

Hickory Meadows consists of 6 kilometers of trails that are groomed during the winter ski season. Hickory Hills Recreation Area has been owned and operated as a ski area and park by the City of Traverse City since 1952 and offers recreational activities through all four seasons.
