Following the NCTA Heritage Chapter’s work weekend May 14-15, Past [Chapter] President Mike Stafford plans to backpack a section from mileage marker WI-202 west to Copper Falls State Park WI-172.

After work on Sunday morning, May 15, we shuttle cars and begin our hike from Highway 169 just south of the Potato River. Hike approximately 4.3 miles to a proposed primitive camp at the lower Foster Falls area around WI-198. On Monday, May 16, we hike approximately 10 miles to the new campsite west of Wren Falls at WI-188. On Tuesday, May 17, we hike approximately 10 miles to camp in the Copper Falls backcountry area. On Wednesday, May 18, we hike approximately six miles to our cars at Copper Falls.

All campsites are primitive or in dispersed areas, so no reservations are needed. Also, given the relatively low daily miles planned here, we have plenty of opportunity to explore, fish, or adjust our schedule.

This event is free and is open regardless of attendance at the work weekend. However, previous backpacking experience is strongly recommended. Contact Mike if interested in attending (mjstafford13@gmail.com) and visit Meetup for RSVP and further information.
