Deadman’s Hill to Warner Creek Trailhead, Elmira, MI
Join the Jordan Valley 45° Chapter for a snowshoe hike near Elmira, MI.
We will be flexible depending on weather conditions and group size. Upon arrival at the Warner Creek Trailhead on M-32, we will make a final hike plan.
We will meet at 9:30am at hikes-end at the Warner Creek Trailhead (near mile marker 659.75) on M32, about 3 miles west of US131 and drive hikers to Deadman’s Hill Overlook at 10:00. The overlook is at the end of E. Deadman’s Hill Rd. (near mile marker 659.75). If there is deep snow, the road might not be plowed all the way to the trail head. Following the hike, we can ferry drivers back to Deadman’s.
See map and mile markers here.
Aside from the steep hill into the valley near Deadman’s, the terrain is mostly flat. Snowshoes will likely be necessarily, so watch the weather.
There will be three options:
1. Deadman’s south about a mile on the Jordan River Pathway (marker 14 and then down into the valley (marker 3, mile 663.50), pass under Deadman’s and north to M-32 via Warner Creek Pathway – about 7.5 miles (~6.0 if we skip Warner Creek).
2. Deadman’s north to M-32 plus Warner Creek Pathway – about 5.2 miles
3. Deadman’s north to M-32 – about 3.7 miles (if we skip Warner Creek Pathway)
Along the way we will check out conditions following the recent logging near O’Brien Pond, the 2021 reroute and the Beaver Deceiver on O’Brien Pond. Typically, we have a faster group that could do option 1 or 2 and then all would rendezvous at the Warner Creek Trailhead at the end.
Watch the forecast and dress for the weather. Snowshoes may be required. Bring water, snacks and a camera. If you can’t bring a friend, one will be provided. If there is interest, we may go to Forx Restaurant in Elmira for pops and sandwiches afterwards.
The Jordan Valley 45 Chapter trail runs from Starvation Lake Rd. to Kipp Rd. in Harbor Springs, about 79 miles of awesome valleys, hills, and wooded trails.
