Jordan Valley 45° Chapter: Mancelona Snowshoe Hike
Our Jordan Valley 45° Chapter will be hosting a snow shoe hike on January 21st from Cinder Hill Rd. to Mancelona Rd. ~5.5 miles. We will gather at 10:am and head out by 10:30.
See map with mile markers (map was updated in late 2022):

We will meet at the ORV parking lot located on Mancelona Rd. at Sand Lake Rd., which is about a half mile west of the NCT trail crossing (682.75). From there we will ferry hikers to the hike start on Cinder Hill Rd. The trail crossing on Cinder Hill Rd. (mile marker 678.5) is about 2.5 miles north of Mancelona Rd.)
First, we will walk about a half mile west to Five Lake (678.0) and then back to Cinder Hill Rd. (marker 678.5). Second, we will hike the trail south to the trail crossing on Mancelona Rd. (mile marker 682.75) and then walk to the ORV parking lot at Mancelona Rd. & Sand Lake Rd.
The first half the hike is rolling hills and old growth forest and the second half relatively
flat and near farm fields. Thick woods, it is a beautiful section of trail! Snow shoes are highly recommended. Cross Country Skis may work but the trail is not groomed. Dress for the weather, bring water, snacks and a camera. If you don’t bring a friend, one will be provided!
Option – Consider driving directly to the Cinder Hill Road NCT crossing and do a yo-yo hike from Cinder Hill Rd. south with the group and back as far as you want to hike.
*** Following the hike, we will need to ferry drivers back to recover any cars posted on Cinder Hill Rd. *If there is interest in doing a longer hike, we will continue south from Mancelona Rd. to Sand Lake (684.5) and back. That would add 3.0 miles. ***
After the hike, we will meet for lunch at the Iron Skillet in Mancelona, next to the Rooted Store (stuff made in Michigan). We hope you can join us!
