Jordan Valley Hikes, Hatchery Loop
The NCTA Jordan Valley 45° Chapter will be hosting two hikes on April 16 in the southwest half of the Jordan Valley.
We will gather at 9:30 a.m. (ET) at the Jordan Valley National Fish Hatchery (end of Turner Road, west of U.S. 131). The long hike will head out promptly at 10:00 a.m. and the short hike will head out at 10:30 a.m.
- Long Hike: 13.25-mile, clockwise loop. Kevin Whitley will host. From the hatchery, we’ll hike south on Jordan River Road for about one mile to the Jordan Valley Pathway (JVP). We’ll hike a little over three miles to Landslide Overlook (Michigan Mile 663.25). From Landslide Overlook, we’ll hike about 3.25 miles to Pinney Bridge via the 45° Marker. Pinney Bridge to Jordan River Road (4.75 miles) then to the hatchery (one mile).
- Short Hike: About 5.75 miles. Gather by 10:00 a.m. to arrange transport to Pinney Bridge based on headcount, and start hiking by 10:30. Ellen Whitehead will host. Pinney Bridge via Jordan River Road and Pinney Bridge Road: 4.5 miles. Pinney Bridge (Michigan Mile 659.75) to Jordan River Road (655, near Three Tubes) via the NCNST (about 4.75 miles). Jordan River Road (at Three Tubes) to the hatchery (one mile).
Dress for the weather, bring plenty of water and snacks. We can stop to picnic on the Trail, or afterwards at the hatchery.
The Jordan Valley 45° Chapter’s NCNST section runs from Starvation Lake Road (southeast of Mancelona) to Kipp Road near Harbor Springs. It’s a terrific 78 miles of awesome valleys, hills, and wooded trail. Monthly hikes are usually on the third Saturday of the month. Call or text Bob Courtois with questions at 248-212-6699.
