May Day Hike
The NCTA Marquette Area Chapter is holding a May Day Hike on Sunday, May 1. Despite the spring weather, many trails are still not accessible due to mud or snow. In addition, hiking on thawing, saturated, and muddy trails can result in damage. Instead, join us on an interesting and relaxed hike on a part of the North Country National Scenic Trail you may not have visited.
We’ll begin at the Welcome Center on U.S. 41 and hike along the NCNST until we join the Chocolay Bayou Nature Trail (which is not part of the NCNST). This nature preserve is provided by the Upper Peninsula Land Conservancy. The preserve protects 13 acres of wetland that acts as a stopover for migrating birds. We’ll spend time enjoying the interpretive features on the trail loops. If you have binoculars, bring them to help observe birds and other wildlife. The entire hike is less than two miles, making this a family friendly hike for people of all ages. Join us!
We’ll meet at the Marquette Welcome Center, 2201 U.S. 41 S. around 12:45 for a prompt 1:00 p.m. start. Advance registration is required for leaders to plan hiking logistics and to ensure we can contact participants with any last minute updates. Please register by April 30.
