Laughing Whitefish Hike
The NCTA Marquette Area Chapter is holding a hike in the Laughing Whitefish area on June 5. Along with viewing the well-known falls, we’ll hike the entire spur to a bridge over the Laughing Whitefish River. We’ll view some smaller waterfalls and spring flowers along the way. We will be joined by biologist Amellia Vasquez-Collins who will share information on the natural features of the area, identify some of the native flora and other interesting phenomena.
Count on it being buggy and muddy! Bring bug spray, wear long pants and sleeves, waterproof boots, and consider a head net. You should also bring water and a snack. The roundtrip total mileage for the hike will be about five miles; there are stairs and a steep incline. A pit toilet is located at the trailhead.
We’ll meet at 12:15 p.m. in the commuter lot at Lofaro’s Fresh Market Grocery: 101 Carmen Drive in Harvey. We’ll caravan together from there, leaving promptly at 12:30 p.m. We hope some are willing to share rides from Lofaro’s to avoid a parking dilemma at the trailhead; we can arrange this when we meet.
The hike is limited to 20 participants. Hikers can make a reservation by sending their name and the number of people hiking in a separate email to mac@northcountrytrail.org. Please use the subject heading “June Hike.” We will inform you once we’ve received your registration.
