The Marquette Area Chapter invites you on a group hike at Mulligan Plains/ Silver Lake Basin on Sunday, August 13. This will be an all-day trip, including an out-and-back hike for a total of approximately 6 miles (3 miles each way). The terrain is rugged but we will keep an easy pace. Our hike leader is Nicole Dahl, who is the trail adopter for this trail segment. She is an experienced hiker and trail worker who is trained in wilderness survival.
The theme for this hike is “Put a Poem in Your Pocket.” Bring a poem with you! We will be taking breaks to regroup and catch our breath. We can share some of our favorite nature (or other) poems. If anyone is uncomfortable reading aloud, Nicole will be happy to put your poem in her pocket to read.
We will meet at 8:00 AM in the Target parking lot by Jimmy John’s and caravan together from there. A high-profile vehicle is required to access the trailhead. We hope some are willing to share rides; we can arrange this when we meet. It takes about 1 ½ hours to reach the trailhead and we plan to be on the trail by 10 AM. We’ll take several breaks including a lunch stop at an overlook, then back out of the woods by 4 PM, returning to the Target parking lot by 5 PM.
Bring bug spray, snacks, lunch, plenty of water, and consider a head net and trekking poles if you use them.
