Join the group heading over to Grand Rapids from the NCTA Annual Celebration in Walker, as we hike and learn more about iron mining and logging history. Below is the rough itinerary:

  1. Meet at the Minnesota North College, Itasca campus at 8:30 a.m. to learn more about local iron mining history visible from the NCNST west of Tioga Beach (Tioga #2) and south of CR-61 (Lind and Greenway Mines). The exact meeting location is TBA.
  2. Following the presentation, at 9:20, we’ll hike from the north end of NE 27th Avenue / CR-B north to the tailings piles and back.
  3. We’ll have lunch at the Forest History Center at noon, then hike some of their trails learning some about the logging history of the region.
  4. We’ll last head to Tioga Beach, arriving at 2:15, to hike the new NCNST segment between Tioga Beach and CR-17. Along the way, we’ll pass by the Tioga #2 mine facilities.

Annual Celebration attendees will be riding a school bus but you will be responsible for your own transportation for the hikes. You can attend part or all of the event. Times are rough estimates.
