Date change: Aug 15-21, 2011, Mary Coffin, Volunteer Leader, maryccoffin@gmail.com
If you are looking for the camaraderie of like-minded hikers to bag a few miles of the NCNST in the Michigan’s UP this might be the trip for you.
NCTA’s 2nd Annual Extended Outing will feature sections of the North Country National Scenic Trail in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, It is a day hiking and camping trip on the NCT along Lake Superior’s south shore and will include Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, AuSable Lighthouse, Twelve Mile Beach and more.
Each day we will hike with day pack for 6-10 miles using vans to shuttle between campsites and trail heads. We will set up tents in state parks and cook and eat outdoors. Wilderness Inquiry, a not for profit outfitter, will take care of logistics.
Points of interest along the way include: scenic Grand Sable Dunes, picturesque Au Sable Lighthouse, remote Twelve Mile Beach, interesting rock formations at Chapel Rock and the most famous rock formation, Miners Castle.
