DPG chapter hosts workday to mark NCT segment for winter use
On 10/13, a small group of NCTA volunteers went out onto the NCT within the Sheyenne National Grassland to improve the trail marking. Our goal was to make the trail easier to follow in the winter, when the gravel trail tread is obscured by snow. Since the Grasslands are much more open than most of the rest of the NCT, it is a challenge to locate the trail as there is no defined corridor through the vegetation. Some folks who are not comfortable traveling cross-country on XC skis or snowshoes can now follow the trail.
The particular section that we marked was 3.5 miles from the east trailhead located on Ransom Co. 23 to the crossing of Iron Springs Creek. More information on this segment is available online on the NCTA’s Wiki Trail Guide.
Thanks go to Ron Saeger (DPG Chapter), Tom Moberg (SRV Chapter), Mike Doyle (LLC Chapter), and Jim Reimers for taking part in the workday. And special thanks to Tom Moberg for rigging up the game cart for use as a Carsonite post, post driver, and tool carrier!
