Forest Scavenger Hunt
This guided hike with the Allegheny National Forest Chapter will double as a “Forest Scavenger Hunt” along the North Country Trail in Tracy Ridge. We’re hoping to introduce our next generation of hikers to the trail with this fun activity!
Our meeting time is 10:00am, Saturday, July 13, at Nelse Run parking. The parking lot is located on Rt 321about 6.5 miles south of Rt 346 or about 8.4 miles north of Rt 59 at coordinates N 41° 53.874’ W 078° 53.946’ (41.897900, -78.899100). We will do an out-and-back hike north on the NCT toward Johnnycake Run. It is about 2.0 miles to follow Nelse Run branch to the top and back, 4.8 miles to make it to the Handsome Lake trail and return, or about 7.0 miles to go to Johnnycake and back. The length of the hike can be adjusted based on the desires of the participants.
Please come prepared for the hike dressed in appropriate layers for the weather, and carrying your own food and water. Friendly dogs on leashes are welcome. We hope to see you down the trail!
