Join the NCTA Allegheny National Forest Chapter for an inaugural introductory backpack hike! On this hike, we will get tips on backpacking and backpacking equipment. Should you need it, we will have some equipment available to borrow courtesy of the U.S. Forest Service.

Our meeting time is 10:00 a.m. at the Henrys Mills / Route 666 Trailhead. (This is located on Route 666 about 3.5 miles south of Route 948 on the southeast side of the bridge over the Tionesta Creek.) At the meeting spot, we’ll hand out any needed equipment and answer questions before carpooling to our starting point, Minister Road trailhead. Equipment available includes: Backpacks, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, sleeping bag liners, stoves, camp pots, and group tents. You should bring your own food, water, bowls, cups, silverware, and method of filtering water.

From the Minister Road trailhead, we’ll hike back to Henrys Mills over two days for a total of 10.3 miles. Please come prepared for the hike dressed in appropriate layers for the weather. Try to minimize the weight that will be put into your pack. We encourage you to participate in this inaugural event if you would like to try or learn more about backpacking.

We can accommodate a total of 10 hikers for this event. The first 10 to fill out and submit this form will be accepted for the hike. Each hiker must fill out a form. Once you fill out the form, you should receive a confirmation email from the Chapter. Hikers after the first 10 will also receive a confirmation email, but will be put on a waitlist. The link will be deactivated after the 20th interested hiker. Within a day, you’ll receive a second email letting you know that you are in the group of 10 that have been accepted for the hike, or that you are in the waitlist group. Included in the email will include details about clothing and equipment that you should bring on the hike to allow you time to prepare for the backpack.
