This Chequamegon Chapter hike consists of two out-and-back hikes, one about 2.8 miles and the other about 1.6 miles. Both hikes start and end in the parking area for the Penokee Ski Trails.

There is a little bushwacking involved, so this hike might be difficult for people with mobility impairments.

Hikers will have an opportunity to view two large beaver ponds and see the impact these busy colonies have on the landscape.

The trailhead is well-marked and located off County Highway GG, west of Mellen and north of Clam Lake.

We suggest that you dress for the weather and bugs, wear a hat, bring bug repellant (perhaps a bug head net), water, lunch, and a snack.
