Chief Noonday Chapter Workday, General Trail Grooming
The NCTA Chief Noonday Chapter will be opening the path of encroaching vines, bushes, and branches. This three-mile trail has recently been mowed, but the mower doesn’t do much for the growth coming in from the sides.
It’ll be a fairly easy workday. Bring loppers, pruners, battery operated hedge trimmers, etc. Join up with a few other folks and socialize while you walk this nicely forested stretch of the NCNST near Augusta, Mich. Last week wild blueberries were ‘ripe for the pickin!’
Recommend long pants and long sleeves, but mosquitos haven’t been bad at all. Water is always a good idea. You may hike in about one mile and then back. No restrooms, but there is a gas station a quarter-mile away in Augusta.
Meet at the trailhead just east of Augusta on M-96, about five miles west of Battle Creek. Trailhead is on Fort Custer Drive, which is right across from the Fort Custer State Park entrance. (GPS coordinates: 42.335158, -85.338508).
